Root Canal Treatment For Anterior And Posterior Teeth
Endodontic Therapy in a Convenient Location
It’s not uncommon for family dentists to refer their patients out for root canal treatments. After all, the procedure requires slightly more time and detail than your average filling. Fortunately for Graceful Smiles Dentistry patients, Dr. Elsa Mammen provides comprehensive endodontic services here in our office. You can have all of your family’s dental care needs taken care of in one location!
When Do Teeth Need Root Canals?
A root canal is a restoration that repairs a tooth from the inside out. They’re necessary when the nerve deep inside of the tooth has become damaged or infected. Some examples of teeth that need to be restored with a root canal include:
- Abscessed teeth
- Teeth that have broken or fractured up to the pulp chamber
- Severely decayed teeth
- When trauma has caused the nerve to die
Are any Other Treatments Necessary?
Yes. All teeth that have been treated endodontically will also require a full coverage crown to be placed over the tooth once the root canal is complete. Read more about our crown options [HERE.]
The Treatment Process
Graceful Smiles Dentistry offers in-house root canal therapy for all teeth. The procedure usually lasts a little over an hour, so we typically recommend nitrous oxide or one of our other sedation options to keep you relaxed and comfortable. During the treatment, Dr. Elsa will remove the damaged portion of the tooth so that she can access the infected nerve tissue inside of the inner canal. Using very small instruments, the damaged nerve tissue is removed and the inner chamber is then thoroughly cleaned. A filling material is then placed down into the nerve chamber of the tooth, sealing it off from future infection. The remaining portion of the crown is then prepped for a restoration.
