Dental Fillings

Because fillings are tooth-colored, you won’t even be able to tell they’ve been placed in the mouth.

What are Dental Fillings?

A dental filling is used to replace areas of a tooth that have become decayed. When a cavity begins to develop, we can remove the decay and replace the area with a tooth-colored filling. The filling not only helps to prevent issues with sensitivity, but it helps to improve overall functionality of the tooth. The filling procedure is quick, easy and multiple fillings can be placed in the same appointment as long as they’re on the same side of the mouth.

Why would Dental Fillings be needed?

Dental fillings would be needed if you have one or more cavities. Cavities can develop for a variety of reasons, but they should be treated as soon as possible to prevent the spread of decay. Removing the decay and putting a filling in place helps to prevent the need for an eventual root canal or even extraction. Because fillings are tooth-colored, you won’t even be able to tell they’ve been placed in the mouth.

What makes you a good candidate for Dental Fillings?

To determine if you’ll need a filling, we’ll perform an exam to check for signs of decay. In some cases, we’ll need to look at dental x-rays to check for cavities that would otherwise go unnoticed with a regular exam. Fillings are ideal for patients of all ages. They can be ideal for adult as well as pediatric patients alike.

What happens during the procedure for Dental Fillings?

The area will receive anesthetic to make the procedure comfortable. We then work to remove the decay from the tooth and prepare the small hole for the filling using a bonding agent. The composite resin is then placed into the hole and smoothed out into place. Once the filling has been smoothed, it’s cured with a bright light so that it hardens into place. Your new filling can last for many years before it may need to be replaced with a new restoration.
