Dental Exams & Cleanings

A dental exam and cleaning is necessary to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

What are Dental Exams & Cleanings?

A dental exam is performed to check for signs of cavities and other intra-oral related problems. Cleanings are done by licensed hygienists who clean the teeth of hardened plaque and tartar while simultaneously checking the health of your gums. Both an exam and cleaning should be done twice a year as part of your preventative care routine. Both procedures take about an hour in our office when it’s most convenient for you.

Why are Dental Exams & Cleanings needed?

A dental exam and cleaning is necessary to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Regardless of how long it’s been since your last visit to the dentist, it’s important to come in to be seen and treated. Exams can help check for problems before they’re able to get worse, and this is crucial to saving your smile and improving overall oral health. Cleanings help to remove hardened plaque and stains for fresher, cleaner breath.

Dr. Mammen and her staff are very kind and do everything possible to make you as comfortable as they can. After having encountered a couple of dentists with questionable ethics, I was relieved to find a provider that seems to have my dental health as the primary concern.

What makes you a good candidate for Dental Exams & Cleanings?

Every one of our patients is a good candidate for exams and cleanings. In fact, we recommend that all members of your family make it a habit to come in for bi-annual visits. These appointments help to keep your teeth healthy and your gums free of inflammation or infection. We offer care in a nonjudgmental manner, so we can help provide treatment regardless of how long it’s been since you’ve last seen a dentist.

What happens during Dental Exams & Cleanings?

First, we will take x-rays of your teeth to help in the diagnosis of certain conditions and treatment. Our hygienist then works to clean your teeth and remove tartar and stains. Your gums are checked for any signs of gingivitis or gum disease. Dr. Elsa Mammen will then come into the room and perform the exam. The exam checks for cavities, intra-oral problems as well as oral cancer. Both the cleaning and exam take about an hour in our office and it’s recommended that you come in for these procedures twice a year.
